Winter Fire – Romantic Poetry
The dark of the room pushes us together
Locking our secrets between us
The way the red ribbon seals your gift–
Small token of my love for you–
Hidden in the fuzzy stocking by the door.
The cold wind whistles outside
Jealous of the fire
Burning wildly between us–
Bright and warm as the summer–
As we lay claim our old couch.
Christmas Eve is not nearly as exciting
As the Christmas night we share
Curled beneath cheap strands of light–
Badly hung with tacks and tape–
With forgotten nog warming on the table.
